Along those lines, in 2011 I'm going to keep pushing the envelope physically; and have an ambitious running and triathlon season planned:
- May 15th: Superhero Half Marathon
- May 28th: Hammonton Sprint Triathlon
- June 11th: Jersey Genesis Triathlon
- July 9th: Vincentown Sprint Triathlon
- July 25th: Volunteering - Transition Tent, Ironman Lake Placid
- August 14th: Presidential Lakes Olympic Triathlon
- September 3rd: Marlton Lakes Sprint Triathlon
- October 2nd: Half Ironman - Pocono Mountains
- November 6th: NYC Marathon*
- November 13th: Tri-State Tough Mudder
You'll also notice that volunteering gig in late July. The Ford Ironman Series hosts one of it's few East Coast Ironman races in Lake Placid in upstate NY. Ironman (and triathlon in general) has grown so popular that it's now gotten quite tough to get into an Iroman event because so many people are trying to get in. One of the ways to ensure your entrance is to volunteer at the previous year's event.
So, if you're doing the math in your head - that means I'm now tip towing down a path that will lead me on a collision course with the 2012 Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon. For those of you unfamiliar, an Ironman is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile marathon. Nonstop.
The highlight of the 2011 season will be the Half Ironman Pocono Mountains. It's exactly half of a full Ironman, and should take about 7 hours to finish. It'll be the culmination of a tough summer of training and dieting. Twice a day workouts will not be uncommon. Hopefully I also get lucky and get into the NYC Marathon a month later.
This winter I'm keeping the cardio up with twice weekly boxing classes, and I've also picked up some spinning classes over the past few weeks to keep the legs tuned up until the snow thaws. Some people knock me for taking the spin classes, but you sweat like a mother - and get to stare at hot girls asses for 45 minutes. Not all bad.
Someone recently asked me how I manage to get my job done while maintaining such an ambitious workout schedule. The truth is that when you plan routine daily workouts, it actually makes you more efficient and productive in your job. You bust your tail to get that report done...because you know you gotta be on your bike by 5pm, or in the pool by 7am.
Keep striving to be better in 2011.
